Holly Lakes Knights Baby Shower

The Knights of Columbus at Holy Spirit Church in Holly Lake have outdone themselves again!  Father Michael Snider, the Knights and their families are firmly committed to the culture of life in their parish.  The recent “Knights of Columbus Pro-Life Baby Shower” held resulted in a truck-load of baby items brought by the parishioners to be donated to The Gabriel Project. All of these items will be supplied to area mothers who are in need of help as they choose life for their unborn child.

Way to go Holy Spirit Church!

Angels in Training at Conception Parish in Jefferson TX

A Gabriel Project training session was held at Immaculate Conception Parish in Jefferson, TX on February 21, 2015 thanks to Fr. Joseph Nasser, SJ.   The parish ladies were such a large part of this training with their support, warm welcome and good lunch they provided everyone was delighted.  This training was attended by Fr. Mark Dunne (St. Francis of Assisi), Fr. Denzil Vithanage (St. Joseph) who encouraged their parishioners to attend the training.  Also participating were area Resource Agencies, including Michele Spencer (Living Alternatives of Marshall), Wendi Rees (The Magdalyn House of Tyler) and Amada Boone (Health and Human Resources).  Our own Angel, Pam Watts also shared her experiences with the attendees.

The “Gabriel Angels” volunteers are the heart of the Gabriel Project. They are specially trained volunteers who represent our Church as a whole. They take a specific mom in crisis and mentor her in a loving and supportive way. Whether the crisis involves the woman deciding to have her child, opposed to choosing abortion, or a woman who is in crisis as she struggles to care for her children, an Angel will be by her side to provide much needed emotional, physical and spiritual support as long as the help is needed.

Volunteers for any organization need training to learn the organization’s mission statement, to understand the duties involved in volunteering and most important to understand that they will be the special messengers’ from God to a woman and her child. The training sessions are held in local communities and cover a variety of issues involved in this mentoring. Guest speakers are invited to share their ministries and work in the community.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

A Reflection on Mothers by Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty

The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral – a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body. The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation … What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother?”
